Tank Inspection and Tank Painting Services

Tank Inspection Service
Surface rust and corrosion are the main causes of failure of outdoor aboveground storage tanks (ASTs). ASTs in Massachusetts are subjected to extreme weather conditions, ranging from winter cold, snow and ice to summer rain and high temperatures. The contents of the tank and the tank shell itself expand in the heat and contract in the cold, creating severe stress on the coating to maintain good surface adhesion. ASTs in coastal areas are subjected to salt air, which further increases the potential for corrosion.

To minimize damage to your AST make sure you have a tank maintenance program in place. CommTank recommends our specialized tank inspection service for ASTs of all types. ASTs should be inspected every 5 years for corrosion at low points in the tank, welded joints and fittings, areas exposed to salt or precipitation, and areas that may have been subjected to wear and tear or physical damage. Our service includes an inspection plan and procedure, a list of potential safety hazards, and a comparison of our inspection results to your tank manufacturer’s specifications. We will provide you with a report of our inspection findings, which will include a list of factors that accelerate coating deterioration and our recommendations to repair and/or avoid common coating defects on your tank.
