Lynn Water Treatment UST Stick Point Replacement
The city of Lynn hired CommTank to test the underground tanks at the water treatment facility as part of an annual testing program. Three 8000-gallon underground tanks store diesel fuel for the emergency backup generator. During the testing of the tank, the stick point was found to be leaking at the threaded joint at the tank’s top. CommTank recommended that it be replaced.
The concrete had to be jackhammered and the concrete removed with a mini excavator. A new pipe was installed to replace the corroded stick point. Rebar was added to reinforce the new concrete. A new manway was installed and leveled to match the existing tank manways. For a small job like this the concrete is mixed by hand and poured into the opening. CommTank crews smoothed the new concrete to provide the same pitch so that surface water flows around the manway.
